Stories + Voices
Bob Lupton (South Atlanta: Its Life, Its Spirit, Its People – by Dee Robinson, 104):
“God authors vision. The vision for a reborn community has been stirring in the hearts of South Atlanta seniors for years. And now the fullness of time has come for this vision to unfold. And we at FCS have been blessed by the invitation to play a significant role in its planning and implementation. With the assistance of ’strategic neighbors’ who are moving into South Atlanta to begin ministry, volunteers who are teaming up with seniors, counselors to run summer camps, coaches to organize athletic teams, churches and businesses to build new affordable homes for neighbors, the vision for a safe, economically viable South Atlanta is blossoming.”
Nervia McDade:
“Charis gives people a chance, sometimes in situations where no one else would. I am a proud homeowner, because of Charis Community Housing, and I talk about them to anyone I know looking for a place to stay.”
Constance Vining:
“When I first heard of Charis Community Housing’s vision for the city of Atlanta that was the beginning of my dreams coming true. I never envisioned that God would bless me to be on the receiving end of such a beautiful home. I would not have had the opportunity or the financial means if i t had not been for Charis Community Housing’s faithfulness, dedication and the God-fearing individuals of the Charis family… Thank you for making my dreams of being a homeowner come true.”
Gloria Moss:
“[Charis homeownership] is the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me… It was the fulfillment of a dream… Not easy, but nothing worth having ever is. Things could have gone in another whole direction. I’m always encouraging people to come and apply to Charis Community Housing.”
Margaret Cloud:
“Always best to try and buy a home, because you know that it is going to be your HOME. It is going to be yours one day.”
Homeowner Highlight – Tanisha Corporal:
“We at Charis Community Housing believe that our homeowners play an important role in working with us in transforming Atlanta communities. We are excited to welcome our newest change agent – Tanisha Corporal – and her young son to the South Atlanta Neighborhood.
Tanisha Corporal loves helping others connect the dots in their lives. With a bachelors degree in Psychology from Florida A&M University, she has turned this passion into a career. Ms. Corporal works as a Pathway Coach assisting individuals and families in need by offering continuous educational resources, life-skills, resume development and job placement. Her primary focus is to assit people transitioning out of public housing developments and into new endeavors.
Ms. Corporal loves “bringing people together around positive things.” She loves planning celebrations for family and friends. She even has gone so far as to coordinate gatherings that are designed to provide women with a nuturing space to discover, develop and demonstrate what it means to be empowered.
While much of her time is spent investing in the lives of others, Ms. Corporal wisely understands that neglecting herself entirely would mean diminishing her ability to minister to others. She attempts to leave a little time on her calendar to indulge in some of her favorite things – including travel, theater, good movies and spa treatments. She is about to cut into her personal time, however, as she begins to pursue her masters degree in Community Counseling at Mercer University. She hopes that her ability to support those in need will exponentially grow as a result of her studies.
Withe education, experience and passion to help others, Tanisha Corporal is the type of change agent the world needs.”
