Charis has been entrusted with the mission of restoring and developing urban Atlanta neighborhoods, but we cannot do it alone. Together we work as a body to bring about lasting renewal. Churches and organizations donate time and money to construct affordable Charis homes. Volunteers bring their expertise to Charis homeownership classes. Strategic Neighbors weave their lives into the fabric of the community. Volunteer realtors help locate owners of vacant properties. And the list goes on…
We invite you to come to South Atlanta for a visioning meeting to see how you might fit into the larger Charis team. We can show you around the neighborhood and sit for a chat over cup of coffee.

We currently need sponsors and volunteers in two key areas of focus:
HOUSING FORECLOSURE CRISIS
In joining with FCS Urban Ministries, Charis is pursuing a comprehensive community development outreach in South Atlanta. We need strategic partners to take on this housing crisis with gusto. Are you in?
Estimated costs per house
We’re asking our partners to contribute $25,000 per house, plus volunteers.
Start-up ministry, staff and rehab funding, stewarded with discretionary care and in accountability to the Charis Board, will be needed as we begin our focus on rehabbing foreclosure homes in 2008.
Goals
- Purchase and rehab 50 foreclosed homes at $25,000 each over the next 3-5 years.
- Prepare each family for homeownership through a lease-to-purchase homeownership program over 3-5 years.
- Provide family services alongside local churches and community chaplains to meet spiritual and social needs.
- Establish 5 foundational “church-to-church-with community” partnerships alongside Charis Community Housing. We envision multiple, diverse groups sharing the effort on each home.

RENTAL REHABS
Basic Volunteer Projects
$2,500 (materials and staff/administration)
Mid-size Projects
$10,000 (contractor fees and materials)
Rental Rehab Projects
$30,000 (materials, appliance updates, contractor fees, and staff/admin support for one house)
Construction Supplies
In addition to volunteer and financial engagement, Charis is looking for key partners to donate new construction materials to off set rehab costs. A detailed list of needs is available upon request.
